Bras for CAWES - Students Lead Unique Special Project
Bras and feminine products are often in short supply at shelters. At CAWES however, thanks to the ingenuity and hands-on effort of two of our B.Sc. Nursing practicum students, bras are certainly no longer in short supply.
We are grateful for the initiative and contribution of Raya Nicodemus and Amy Moen, who called on their colleagues at Red Deer College and collected 138 bras to donate to CAWES.
Well done Raya and Amy! Our clients will certainly benefit from your good work. Thank you!
A&R Reclamation Step Up to Support CAWES Families
Bowens Organize Special Offering This Christmas
On December 21, Karen and Arnold Bowen of A & R Reclamation Ltd. arrived at the shelter with ample resources to provide special gifts and support for four of our families. The Bowens supplied gifts for the mothers and their children and enough food for each of the families to enjoy a very nice Christmas feast (with enough extras to carry over into the New Year)!
Thank you Karen and Arnold! CAWES is grateful for your caring contribution and your thoughtful support of our community.

Day of Remembrance - Candlelight Vigil, City Hall Park
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because they were women.
As well as commemorating the 14 young women whose lives ended in an act of gender-based violence that shocked the nation, December 6 represents an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the phenomenon of violence against women in our society. It is also an opportunity to consider the women and girls for whom violence is a daily reality, and to remember those who have died as a result of gender-based violence. And finally, it is a day on which communities can consider concrete actions to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
Please plan to join us in City Hall Park on Tuesday, December 6 at 5:00pm for a Candlelight Vigil. We are very pleased that Her Worship Tara Veer, Mayor, City of Red Deer will be joining us a featured speaker at the Vigil. MC Ian Wheeliker - Executive Director, CAWES and Irving Kurz - Collaborative Coordinator, DRVIC will also share a few words.
CAWES is grateful for our friends at UFCW Canada who have stepped up each year to coordinate a giving campaign in conjunction with the event. Thank you!
Giving Tuesday - A Celebration of Philanthropy
CAWES Partners with Giving Tuesday Canada
Whatever your means or preference, there are many ways for you to make a difference in the lives of the women and children CAWES serves. With your support, The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter has become recognized as one of the best in Canada. CAWES is grateful for all of the caring and compassionate people that support our work. Without the resources you provide, we would simply not be able to deliver the much needed superior care, support and safe housing that women and children fleeing abuse and violence must have access to. Your contribution of time, talent and treasure has an important and critical impact in our effort to end family violence in Central Alberta and beyond. We invite you to provide hope to our vulnerable women and their children through a variety of giving options.
